Mindy is the Newest Shop Helper to Join Our Service Team in Surrey.

Beginning her career as a backstage theatre technician, Mindy has been working in warehousing for the past six years. As mechanics arrived on-site at the warehouse, she would catch herself “looking over and checking out how they were fixing it.” It was here where she developed a fascination with forklifts and equipment, leading to her education in BCIT’s Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation program.

Completing the program in the midst of COVID-19, Mindy knew she wanted to either follow her father’s footsteps as a Commercial Transport Technician or pave her own path and pursue her interest in material handing equipment. Luckily for us, our Williams Machinery team met Mindy at our BCIT info session and saw a perfect fit. “This [opportunity] fell into my lap in the perfect way” said Margueratt.

Mindy was also the semi-finalist for the Wesgroup Achievements Award, our scholarship with BCIT. Since 2018, Wesgroup Equipment has hosted various scholarships with BCIT. These funds go towards supporting students in BCIT’s Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation Program and Professional Sales Marketing Program.

Today, as a Williams Machinery Shop Helper, Mindy works hands-on “helping our mechanics on the floor, assisting with clean up, and helping where [she] can.” While gaining valuable experience on the job, Mindy also gets to delve deeper into her interest in forklift equipment. “I try to get as many forklifts or lift related tickets as possible. At one point I had six or seven different ones!”

Looking into the future, Mindy aspires to work as an apprentice and “become a Red Seal Mechanic to keep working on all types of machines.” She especially looks forward to seeing how “technology [continues to] develops to keep up with the car technology – better efficiency regarding batteries and more electric machines in general.”
