Summer has arrived and while this season is often a time to de-stress and relax, the impending heat can cause unnecessary strain and damage to your equipment.

Here are some steps to keeping your equipment in top working condition this season:

1. Keep away from direct sunlight - Store your equipment away in cool, dry storage areas when not in use to prolong the life of your machine and attachments. When working on a jobsite with little to no shade, throw over a tarp to protect your equipment from the dry weather and high heat.

2. Avoid using equipment during peak hours of sunlight - When possible, try to avoid operating equipment during peak hours of sunlight to avoid overheating your equipment and causing unncessary damage from the external heat. Jobsite workers should also avoid working during these periods as they are at the greatest risk of sun damage to the skin and heat stroke.

3. Shut off equipment or utilize sleep mode - Switch your equipment to “sleep mode” or completely shut it down when not in use to allow the engine to cool down. Workers should do this during work hours but also after hours to save on energy costs and avoid overheating.

4. Perform pre-season inspections - Keep your equipment up and running during the summer by doing pre-season inspections. Consider a planned maintenance program to make sure your equipment is prepared for every season.
